THE FEEL

O'Fallon has experienced tremendous growth in the last two decades, and is now the seventh largest municipality in the state. Larger homes are the norm, with both older homes and newer construction. Still, the city has a very safe feel.

O’Fallon is also home to WingHaven, a stately planned community covering 1,100 acres and housing an 18-hole golf course, a daycare center, a wellness center, and several hotels and restaurants.

HISTORY

The area of O’Fallon used to be the site of Fort Zumwalt, built during the War of 1812. German settlers came to the area looking to start a new life, and the town was officially founded sometime in the 1850s. In 1854, a local judge granted the North Missouri Railroad permission to build a depot on his property; this depot was named O'Fallon Station, after his friend John O'Fallon, the railroad's president and a noted philanthropist. O’Fallon was officially incorporated in 1912.

The town’s first station agent also operated the town’s first general store, right out of his own home. The City purchased this historic house in 2008 and is looking into plans to restore the house and open it to the public.

ACCESSIBILITY

Interstate 70 and 64/40 run through O’Fallon, making it accessible to Lambert St. Louis International Airport and the city of St. Louis itself.

CULTURE

The Renaud Spirit Center invites the public to view new exhibits and meet local artists periodically, with receptions held at the end of the month. There is also a local theatre troupe (O’Fallon TheatreWorks) and a photography club.

History buffs should explore the site of Fort Zumwalt, which dates back to the war of 1812. There’s also the 9-11 memorial, made of steel salvaged from the World Trade Center, and a Vietnam memorial that is one of the first of its kinds in the nation.

Local celebrations include Cabin Fever Daze, the O'Fallon Jammin’ Concert Series, the Heritage & Freedom Fest, Fall Fest & Street Dance, and the Celebration of Lights.

ENTERTAINMENT

O’Fallon’s Parks and Recreation department does a stellar job in maintaining the city’s parks and athletic facilities; their website also lists arts and entertainment events and venues. O’Fallon’s location along two interstates also means that there are a number of shops and restaurants.

O'Fallon is home to the River City Rascals, an independent Frontier League baseball team playing out of T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

SCHOOLS

O’Fallon is served by three school districts: Fort Zumwalt, Francis Howell, Wentzville R-IV. Schools in all three districts are consistently rated very highly.
